Sutta 155

(Comprehension of) Passion 1

[155.1] Thus have I heard:

Once the Exalted One was dwelling near Sāvatthī,
at Jeta Grove,
in Anāthapiṇḍika's Park.

There the Exalted One addressed the monks, saying:

"Monks."

"Yes, lord," they replied,
and the Exalted One said:

"Monks, for the comprehension of passion
six things ought to be made to become.

What six?

The sight above all,
the sound above all,
the gain above all,
the training above all,
the service above all,
and the ever minding above all.

Monks, for the comprehension of passion
these six things ought to be made to become.'

Sutta 156

(Comprehension of) Passion 2

[156.1] Thus have I heard:

Once the Exalted One was dwelling near Sāvatthī,
at Jeta Grove,
in Anāthapiṇḍika's Park.

There the Exalted One addressed the monks, saying:

"Monks."

"Yes, lord," they replied,
and the Exalted One said:

"Monks, for the comprehension of passion
six things ought to be made to become.

What six?

The ever minding of the Buddha,
the ever minding of Dhamma,
the ever minding of the Order,
the ever minding of virtue,
the ever minding of liberality,
the ever minding of the devas.'

Monks, for the comprehension of passion
these six things ought to be made to become.'

Sutta 157

(Comprehension of) Passion 3

[157.1] Thus have I heard:

Once the Exalted One was dwelling near Sāvatthī,
at Jeta Grove,
in Anāthapiṇḍika's Park.

There the Exalted One addressed the monks, saying:

"Monks."

"Yes, lord," they replied,
and the Exalted One said:

"Monks, for the comprehension of passion
six things ought to be made to become.

What six?

The thought of impermanence,
the thought of the ill therein,
the thought of there being no self in ill,
the thought of renunciation,
the thought of dispassion
the thought of ending.

Monks, for the comprehension of passion
these six things ought to be made to become.'

(Exhaustion of) Passion 1

[158.1] Thus have I heard:

Once the Exalted One was dwelling near Sāvatthī,
at Jeta Grove,
in Anāthapiṇḍika's Park.

There the Exalted One addressed the monks, saying:

"Monks."

"Yes, lord," they replied,
and the Exalted One said:

"Monks, for the exhaustion of passion
six things ought to be made to become.

What six?

The sight above all,
the sound above all,
the gain above all,
the training above all,
the service above all,
and the ever minding above all.

Monks, for the exhaustion of passion
these six things ought to be made to become.'

Sutta 159

(Exhaustion of) Passion 2

[159.1] Thus have I heard:

Once the Exalted One was dwelling near Sāvatthī,
at Jeta Grove,
in Anāthapiṇḍika's Park.

There the Exalted One addressed the monks, saying:

"Monks."

"Yes, lord," they replied,
and the Exalted One said:

"Monks, for the exhaustion of passion

the ever minding of Dhamma,
the ever minding of the Order,
the ever minding of virtue,

and the Exalted One said:

"Monks, for the abandoning of passion
six things ought to be made to become.

What six?

The sight above all,
the sound above all,
the gain above all,
the training above all,
the service above all,
and the ever minding above all.

Monks, for the abandoning of passion
these six things ought to be made to become.'

Sutta 162

(Abandoning of) Passion 2

[162.1] Thus have I heard:

There the Exalted One addressed the monks, saying:

these six things ought to be made to become.'

(Destruction of) Passion 2

"Monks, for the decay of passion
six things ought to be made to become.

What six?

the training above all,
the service above all,
and the ever minding above all.

Monks, for the decay of passion
these six things ought to be made to become.'

Sutta 168

(Decay of) Passion 2

[168.1] Thus have I heard:

"Monks, for the freedom from passion
six things ought to be made to become.

What six?

The sight above all,
the sound above all,
the gain above all,
the training above all,
the service above all,
and the ever minding above all.

Monks, for the freedom from passion
these six things ought to be made to become.'

Sutta 171

(Freedom From) Passion 2

[171.1] Thus have I heard:

Once the Exalted One was dwelling near Sāvatthī,
at Jeta Grove,
in Anāthapiṇḍika's Park.

There the Exalted One addressed the monks, saying:

"Monks."

"Yes, lord," they replied,
and the Exalted One said:

"Monks, for the freedom from passion

and the ever minding above all.

Monks, for the quittance of passion
these six things ought to be made to become.'

Sutta 177

(Quittance of) Passion 2

[177.1] Thus have I heard:

Once the Exalted One was dwelling near Sāvatthī,

in Anāthapiṇḍika's Park.

There the Exalted One addressed the monks, saying:
