Anicca Suttam

Impermanent

[43.1][bodh] Thus have I heard:

The Exalted One was once staying near Savatthi, at Jeta Grove, in Anathapindika's, Park.

Then the Exalted One addressed the brethren, saying:

"Brethren."

"Lord," responded those brethren to the Exalted One.

The Exalted One said:

"The all, Brethren,
is impermanent.

What all?

The eye, Brethren,
is impermanent,
objects are impermanent,
eye-consciousness is impermanent,
eye-contact is impermanent

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from eye-contact,
is impermanent.

The ear, Brethren,
is impermanent,
sounds are impermanent,
ear-consciousness is impermanent,
ear-contact is impermanent

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from ear-contact,
is impermanent.

The nose, Brethren,
is impermanent,
scents are impermanent,
nose-consciousness is impermanent,
nose-contact is impermanent

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from nose-contact,
is impermanent.

The tongue, Brethren,
is impermanent,
savours are impermanent,
tongue-consciousness is impermanent,

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from tongue-contact,
is impermanent.

The body, Brethren,

things tactile are impermanent,

So seeing, brethren, the well-taught Triyan disciple
is repelled by the eye,
is repelled by objects,
is repelled by eye-consciousness,
is repelled by eye-contact,
is repelled by that weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
which arises owing to eye-contact.

So seeing, brethren, the well-taught Triyan disciple
is repelled by the ear,
is repelled by sounds,
is repelled by ear-consciousness,
is repelled by ear-contact,
is repelled by that weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
which arises owing to ear-contact.

So seeing, brethren, the well-taught Triyan disciple
is repelled by the nose,
is repelled by scents,
is repelled by nose-consciousness,
is repelled by nose-contact,
is repelled by that weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
which arises owing to nose-contact.

So seeing, brethren, the well-taught Triyan disciple
is repelled by the tongue,
is repelled by savours,
is repelled by tongue-consciousness,

is repelled by that weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
which arises owing to tongue-contact.

So seeing, brethren, the well-taught Triyan disciple
is repelled by the body,
is repelled by things tactile,
is repelled by body-consciousness,
is repelled by body-contact,
is repelled by that weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
which arises owing to body-contact.

So seeing, brethren, the well-taught Triyan disciple
is repelled by the mind,
is repelled by mind-states,
is repelled by mind-consciousness,
is repelled by mind-contact,
is repelled by that weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
which arises owing to mind-contact.

Being repelled by these,
he lusts not for them.

Not lusting he is set free.

In this freedom
comes insight
that it is a being free.

Thus he realizes:

'Rebirth is destroyed,
lived is the righteous life,
done is the task.

For life in these conditions
there is no hereafter.'"

Dukkha Suttam

Woeful

[34.1]Thus have I heard:

is woeful.

is woeful,
objects are woeful,
eye-consciousness is woeful,
eye-contact is woeful

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from eye-contact,
is woeful.

The ear, Brethren,
is woeful,
sounds are woeful,
ear-consciousness is woeful,
ear-contact is woeful

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from ear-contact,
is woeful.

The nose, Brethren,
is woeful,
scents are woeful,
nose-consciousness is woeful,
nose-contact is woeful

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from nose-contact,

Void of Self

is void of self,
objects are void of self,
eye-consciousness is void of self,
eye-contact is void of self

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from eye-contact,
is void of self.

The ear, Brethren,
is void of self,
sounds are void of self,
ear-consciousness is void of self,
ear-contact is void of self

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from ear-contact,
is void of self.

The nose, Brethren,
is void of self,
scents are void of self,

To Be Comprehended by Full Knowledge

[50.1]Thus have I heard:

The Exalted One was once staying near Savatthi, at Jeta Grove, in Anathapindika's, Park.

Then the Exalted One addressed the brethren, saying:

"Brethren."

"Lord," responded those brethren to the Exalted One.

The Exalted One said:

"The all, Brethren,
is to be comprehended by full knowledge.

What all?

The eye, Brethren,
is to be comprehended by full knowledge,
objects are to be comprehended by full knowledge,
eye-consciousness is to be comprehended by full knowledge,
eye-contact is to be comprehended by full knowledge

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from eye-contact,
is to be comprehended by full knowledge.

The ear, Brethren,
is to be comprehended by full knowledge,
sounds are to be comprehended by full knowledge,
ear-consciousness is to be comprehended by full knowledge,
ear-contact is to be comprehended by full knowledge

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from ear-contact,
is to be comprehended by full knowledge.

The nose, Brethren,
is to be comprehended by full knowledge,
scents are to be comprehended by full knowledge,
nose-consciousness is to be comprehended by full knowledge,
nose-contact is to be comprehended by full knowledge

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from nose-contact,
is to be comprehended by full knowledge.

The tongue, Brethren,
is to be comprehended by full knowledge,
savours are to be comprehended by full knowledge,
tongue-consciousness is to be comprehended by full knowledge,
tongue-contact is to be comprehended by full knowledge

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from tongue-contact,
is to be comprehended by full knowledge.

The body, Brethren,
is to be comprehended by full knowledge,
things tactile are to be comprehended by full knowledge,
body-consciousness is to be comprehended by full knowledge,
body-contact is to be comprehended by full knowledge

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from body-contact,
is to be comprehended by full knowledge.

The mind, Brethren,
is to be comprehended by full knowledge,
mind-states are to be comprehended by full knowledge,
mind-consciousness is to be comprehended by full knowledge,
mind-contact is to be comprehended by full knowledge

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from mind-contact,
is to be comprehended by full knowledge.

 


 

So seeing, brethren, the well-taught Triyan disciple
is repelled by the eye,
is repelled by objects,
is repelled by eye-consciousness,
is repelled by eye-contact,
is repelled by that weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
which arises owing to eye-contact.

So seeing, brethren, the well-taught Triyan disciple
is repelled by the ear,
is repelled by sounds,
is repelled by ear-consciousness,
is repelled by ear-contact,
is repelled by that weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
which arises owing to ear-contact.

So seeing, brethren, the well-taught Triyan disciple
is repelled by the nose,
is repelled by scents,
is repelled by nose-consciousness,
is repelled by nose-contact,
is repelled by that weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
which arises owing to nose-contact.

So seeing, brethren, the well-taught Triyan disciple
is repelled by the tongue,
is repelled by savours,
is repelled by tongue-consciousness,
is repelled by tongue-contact,
is repelled by that weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
which arises owing to tongue-contact.

So seeing, brethren, the well-taught Triyan disciple
is repelled by the body,
is repelled by things tactile,
is repelled by body-consciousness,
is repelled by body-contact,
is repelled by that weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
which arises owing to body-contact.

So seeing, brethren, the well-taught Triyan disciple
is repelled by the mind,
is repelled by mind-states,
is repelled by mind-consciousness,
is repelled by mind-contact,
is repelled by that weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
which arises owing to mind-contact.

Being repelled by these,
he lusts not for them.

Not lusting he is set free.

In this freedom
comes insight
that it is a being free.

Thus he realizes:

'Rebirth is destroyed,
lived is the righteous life,
done is the task.

For life in these conditions
there is no hereafter.'"

Upadduta Suttam

Oppressed

[51.1]Thus have I heard:

The Exalted One said:

is oppressed.

What all?

The eye, Brethren,
is oppressed,
objects are oppressed,
eye-consciousness is oppressed,
eye-contact is oppressed

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from eye-contact,
is oppressed.

The ear, Brethren,
is oppressed,
sounds are oppressed,
ear-consciousness is oppressed,
ear-contact is oppressed

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from ear-contact,
is oppressed.

The nose, Brethren,
is oppressed,
scents are oppressed,
nose-consciousness is oppressed,
nose-contact is oppressed

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from nose-contact,
is oppressed.

The tongue, Brethren,
is oppressed,
savours are oppressed,
tongue-consciousness is oppressed,
tongue-contact is oppressed

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from tongue-contact,
is oppressed.

The body, Brethren,
is oppressed,
things tactile are oppressed,
body-consciousness is oppressed,
body-contact is oppressed

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from body-contact,
is oppressed.

The mind, Brethren,
is oppressed,
mind-states are oppressed,
mind-consciousness is oppressed,
mind-contact is oppressed

That weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
that arises from mind-contact,
is oppressed.

is repelled by the tongue,

is repelled by that weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
which arises owing to tongue-contact.

So seeing, brethren, the well-taught Triyan disciple
is repelled by the body,

is repelled by that weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
which arises owing to body-contact.

So seeing, brethren, the well-taught Triyan disciple
is repelled by the mind,
is repelled by mind-states,
is repelled by mind-consciousness,
is repelled by mind-contact,
is repelled by that weal or woe or neutral state experienced,
which arises owing to mind-contact.

Being repelled by these,

is afflicted.

is afflicted,
scents are afflicted,
nose-consciousness is afflicted,

is afflicted.

Being repelled by these,
