Upāsaka Vipatti Suttaɱ

Sāvatthinidānaɱ|| ||

Satt'ime bhikkhave, dhammā upāsakassa vipattiyo saŋvattanti.|| ||

Katame satta?|| ||

2. Bhikkhu dassanaɱ hāpeti.|| ||

Saddhammasavaṇaɱ pamajjati.|| ||

Adisīle na sikkhati.|| ||

Appasādabahulo hoti bhikkhūsu theresu c'eva||
navesu ca||
majjhamesu ca.|| ||

Upārambhacitto dhammaɱ suṇāti randhagavesī.|| ||

Ito ca bahiddhā dakkhiṇeyyaɱ gavesati.|| ||

Idha ca pubbakāraɱ karoti.|| ||

Ime kho bhikkhave, satta dhammā upāsakassa vipattiyo saŋvattanti.|| ||

 


 

Satt'imi bhikkhave, dhammā upāsakassa sampattiyo saŋvattanti.|| ||

Upārambhacitto ca saddhammaɱ sotumicchati.|| ||

Ito ca bhahiddhā aññaɱ dakkhiṇeyyaɱ gavesati,||
Tatth'eva ca pubbakāraɱ yo karoti upāsako,|| ||

Ete kho parihānīye satta dhamme sudesite,||
Upāsako sevamāno saddhammā parihāyati.|| ||

Dassanaɱ bhāvitattānaɱ yo na hāpeti upāsako,||
Savaṇaɱ ca ariyadhammānaɱ adhisīle ca sikkhati.|| ||

Pasādo c'assa bhikkhūsu bhiyyo bhiyyo pavaḍḍhati,||
Anupārambhacitto ca saddhammaɱ sotumicchati.|| ||

[ed1] It is possible that the missing 3rd sutta here is indicated by the discrepancy in versions pointed out by Hardy where in S. the second sutta begins with 'asambhavā' rather than the text's parābhavā. The alternative may have been 'sambhava' and 'asambhava': rebirth and no rebirth.
