Paṭhavī: the earth. It figures as the first element in the enumeration of the 4 elements, viz. p., āpo, tejo, vāyo (earth, water, fire, wind or the elements of the extension, cohension, heat and motion).

 


 

Earth as The Earth, as earth, ground, as any solid matter, the quality of hardness, firmness; as extension in the sense of limits (plant foot); and 1st primary. Pa=pass; at=at; tha=that; vi=2, re, un.

The first of the Four Great Dhatu; The first Root concept of the Mulapariyaya.

There is an internal property of earth and there is an external property of earth

And What is the Element of Earth that is Internal?
That which is hard, solid, resistant and which is located within, and with reference to what is understood as an individual: hair of the Head, hair of the body, nails, teeth, skin, flesh, sinews, bones, marrow, kidney, heart, liver, pleura, spleen, lungs, intestines, mesentery, stomach, excrement, and brain.
