[394][olds] Monks, if even for the lasting of a finger-snap
a monk should practise the first musing,
such an one may be called a monk.
Not empty of result is his musing;[161]
he abides doing the Master's bidding;
he is one who takes advice,
and he eats the country's alms-food
to some purpose.
What could I not say
of one who makes much of the first musing?

a monk should practise the second musing,
such an one may be called a monk.
