[1][upal] THUS have I heard:

Once the Exalted One was dwelling near Sāvatthī,
at Jeta Grove, in Anāthapiṇḍika's Park;
and there he addressed the monks, saying:

"Monks."

'Yes, lord,' they replied;
and the Exalted One said:

"Monks, seven are these fetters.[1]

What seven?

The fetters of complying,
resisting,
view,
uncertainty,
conceit,
worldly lusts
and ignorance.

Verily, monks, these are the seven.'
