The Stream

I Hear Tell

In Sāvatthi

The Bhagava Said

Imagine a Stream

A Torrent

Carrying Away All

And On Both Banks

Grasses Overhanging

Tall Grasses Overhanging

Reeds and Vines Overhanging

Bushes Overhanging

And in the Stream, A Man

He may clutch at the grasses

But the Grasses May Break Away

And He Might be swept off to the Downfall

He May Clutch at the Tall Grasses

At the Reeds and Vines

At the Bushes

But They May Break Away

And He Might be swept off to the Downfall

In the Same Way A common Man

May Clutch at The Body

As the Self

But the Body Breaks Away

And He Might be Swept off to the Downfall

He May Clutch at Sensations

At Perceptions and the Personal World

He May Clutch at Consciousness

But they may Break Away

And He might be swept off to the downfall
