What three?
Empty high-getting
signlessness high-getting
purposelessness high-getting.[1]
For comprehensive knowledge,
utter destruction,
letting go, and
waining of lust;
for lust's putting down,
eradication,
disposal and
rejection,
these three things must become.

What three?
Empty high-getting
signlessness high-getting
purposelessness high-getting.
For comprehensive knowledge,
utter destruction,
letting go, and
waining of hate;
for hate's putting down,
eradication,
disposal and

these three things must become.

[3] For higher knowledge of stupidity, beggars, three things must become.
What three?
Empty high-getting
signlessness high-getting
purposelessness high-getting.
For comprehensive knowledge,
utter destruction,
letting go, and
waining of stupidity;
for stupidity's putting down,
eradication,
disposal and
rejection,
these three things must become.

letting go, and
waining of anger;
for anger's putting down,
eradication,
disposal and
rejection,
these three things must become.

For comprehensive knowledge,
utter destruction,
letting go, and
waining of grudge-bearing;
for grudge-bearing's putting down,
eradication,
disposal and
rejection,
these three things must become.

For comprehensive knowledge,

letting go, and
waining of deception
for deception's putting down,
eradication,
disposal and
rejection,
these three things must become.

waining of ruthlessness;

rejection,
these three things must become.

waining of irritation;
for irritation's putting down,

these three things must become.

waining of selfishness;
for selfishness's putting down,

these three things must become.

utter destruction,
letting go, and
waining of illusion;
for illusion's putting down,
eradication,
disposal and
rejection,
these three things must become.

waining of treachery;
for treachery's putting down,
eradication,

rejection,
these three things must become.

[12] For higher knowledge of stubbornness, beggars, three things must become.

For comprehensive knowledge,
utter destruction,
letting go, and
waining of stubbornness;
for stubbornness's putting down,
eradication,
disposal and
rejection,
these three things must become.

[13] For higher knowledge of quarrellousness, beggars, three things must become.
What three?

purposelessness high-getting.
For comprehensive knowledge,
utter destruction,
letting go, and
waining of quarrellousness;
for quarrellousness's putting down,
eradication,
disposal and
rejection,
these three things must become.

[14] For higher knowledge of madness, beggars, three things must become.
What three?
Empty high-getting
signlessness high-getting
purposelessness high-getting.
For comprehensive knowledge,
utter destruction,
letting go, and
waining of madness;
for madness's putting down,
eradication,
disposal and
rejection,
these three things must become.

[15] For higher knowledge of conceit, beggars, three things must become.
What three?

signlessness high-getting
purposelessness high-getting.
For comprehensive knowledge,
utter destruction,
letting go, and
waining of conceit;
for conceit's putting down,
eradication,
disposal and
rejection,
these three things must become.

[16] For higher knowledge of intoxication, beggars, three things must become.
What three?
Empty high-getting
signlessness high-getting
purposelessness high-getting.
For comprehensive knowledge,
utter destruction,
letting go, and
waining of intoxication;
for intoxication's putting down,
eradication,
disposal and
rejection,
these three things must become.

[17] For higher knowledge of carelessness, beggars, three things must become.
What three?
Empty high-getting
signlessness high-getting
purposelessness high-getting.
For comprehensive knowledge,
utter destruction,
letting go, and
waining of carelessness;
for carelessness's putting down,
eradication,
disposal and
rejection,
these three things must become.
[1] Suññato samādhi, animitto samādhi, appaṇihito samādhi. Getting High (focused, on top of things) empty of lust, hate and blindness; getting high without leaving signs of lust, hate and blindness; getting high without ambition to accomplish anything at all in the world.
