[14]

[1][bodh] THUS have I heard:

Once the Exalted One was staying near Sāvatthī.

Then the Exalted One addressed the monks,
saying:

"Monks."

"Yes, lord," replied those monks to the Exalted One.

The Exalted One said:

"These eight conditions, monks,
utterly pure,
stainless,
void of sin,
not having yet arisen,
come not into being
save under the rule of the Happy One.

What eight?

Right view,
right aim,
right speech,
right action,
right living,
right effort,
right mindfulness,
right concentration.

These, monks, are the eight conditions
utterly pure,
stainless,
void of sin,
not having yet arisen,
come not into being
save under the rule of the Happy One."
