[1] Thus have I heard:

Once the Exalted One addressed the monks,
saying:

"Monks."

"Yes, lord," replied those monks to the Exalted One.

The Exalted One said:

"Monks, these four conditions,
if cultivated and made much of,
conduce to many-sided insight.

What four?

Following after the good,
hearing the Good Norm,
systematic attention to it
and living in accordance with the precepts of the Norm.

These four conditions,
if cultivated and made much of
conduce to many-sided insight."
