[80] [66]

[1][than][bodh] Thus have I heard:

Once the Exalted One dwelt near Sāvatthī;
and there he addressed the monks, saying:

"Monks."

'Yes, lord,' they replied;
and the Exalted One said:

"Monks, growing in five ways of growth,
the devout Ariyan woman grows in Ariyan growth;
she heeds what is essential and best
for her whole being.

In what five?

She grows in faith,
virtue,
learning,
giving up
and insight.

Verily, monks, growing in these five ways of growth,
the Ariyan woman grows in Ariyan growth;
she heeds what is essential and best
for her whole being.

Whoso in faith, in virtue makes a forward growth,
In learning, insight, giving up, alike:
That woman, good, devout,
heeds here the best for self.'
