[266]

[1] THUS HAVE I HEARD

Once the Exalted One was dwelling near Sāvatthī.

There the Exalted One addressed the monks, saying:

"Monks."

"Yes, lord," they replied, and the Exalted One said:

"Monks, there are these three attainments.[1]

What three?

Attainment of faith,
attainment of virtue,
attainment of insight.

These are the three.

Monks, there are these three growths.

What three?

Growth in faith,
growth in virtue,
growth in insight.

These are the three."
